Over the summer, I researched companies I can see myself working for as well as producing work like what I aspire to create. The company research told me a lot about what each company requires from me such as what they want to see in showreels.

From this, I produced work that was for competitions, collaborations, and my own personal projects. From this, I was able to explore a range of techniques and workflows and was able to gain an understanding that 3D realistic animation is the type of animation I want to specialise. I also explored creature animation and I found that my secondary skill alongside character performance is creature animation.

The first term allowed me to further experiment with workflows and types of animation such as cartoony or realistic performances. I had reviews from industry as well as communities online to see where I needed to improve, and I found that lip-sync and facial animation was an area that I needed to work on. From this, I made tests that had dialogue as well as having the camera close on the character's face.

The tests I made have allowed me to know how long it takes me to produce animations as well as have the knowledge and confidence to start planning my FMP. The tutorials with my tutors allowed me to review my work and see what I should work on weekly as well as what areas I should focus on. This was crucial for developing skills in my specialism and having a body of work that I can show industry.

Regarding the work I made this summer and first term, I feel I have used my time effectively to experiment to find exactly what type of animator I wish to be, as well as develop my work to produce animations to a standard that can be shown to industry.
